Referred to as supported housing, residential care, sheltered housing or congregate retirement housing, seniors in Atlanta can benefit from congregate living, an affordable housing arrangement with its cost of service covered by government agencies and charitable organizations. Congregate living arrangements provide either single rooms or full apartments. Seniors in Atlanta should note that there are optional supportive services available. Seniors who are residents in congregate living don't require institutional supervision or intensive care by professionals. In addition, congregate living doesn't require licensure or certification by a government agency.

Congregate Living

Congregate Living is in between Independent Living and Assisted Living. Although the living quarters usually include a kitchenette, meals are usually served in a large, restaurant-style, congregate dining room.

These are multi-unit housing buildings (private rooms or full apartments) that are restricted to persons over a specified age, do not have ovens/stoves, and that include some supportive assistance, such as meals, housekeeping and transportation in the rent.

As with Independent Housing, Congregate Housing does not require licensure or certification by a public agency, since there is no personal care assistance included. As with Independent Housing, Congregate Housing residents may contract privately with Home Health Care or Private Home Care services.

Monthly charges may be priced at market rates or subsidized with government assistance.
