Continuing Care Retirement Communities
CCRCs are like little towns, with different kinds of housing and different levels of care. There are apartments and/or small houses, assisted living homes and nursing homes.
Typically, you move in when you are healthy and active and stay for the rest of your life. You live in the place that provides the care you need at the moment. (There are some who have first come into the nursing care center, for example, and have gotten so much better that they moved into one of the apartments and were able to live independently with only some home care services.)
This type of care (knowing that whatever care you need is right there when you need it) costs more than other types. Typically, there is an appreciable up-front investment required, depending on the size of the cottage or apartment chosen, as well as a significant monthly fee. However, in Georgia, there are some CCRCs that charge on a month-to-month basis.
