Personal Care Homes
PCHs provide a safe and supportive environment for the semi-independent person. The range of care (and cost) depends upon the needs of the individual. PCHs are for people who need assistance with personal care or who cannot safely stay by themselves. They provide residents with a sense of control, independence and privacy by allowing them to make choices for themselves. This type of facility is good for people with good mental function. However, many PCHs provide some level of dementia care.
All Assisted Living Facilities are licensed in Georgia as "Personal Care Homes", whether they are licensed for 2 or 200 residents.
In the Senior Resources Directory, under "Personal Care Homes", we list those facilities which are licensed for fewer than 15 residents and which have business phone numbers. (We make this distinction because having a business phone number is indicative of a more serious operation.)
Most PCHs are converted homes, which provide that "homey" feeling, complete with living rooms, patios and home-cooked meals.
Generally, the cost of these smaller Assisted Livings is usually less than the larger ones.
Refer to our Level of Care Chart.
